This property is situated on the western slope of the Otago Peninsula and enjoys expansive views over the Dunedin City and harbour. The site benefits from an established garden creating a private and sheltered oasis for the occupants.

The client engaged us to update their 1970s family home, originally designed by their father. The main objectives were to open up the kitchen and dining area to the living space, enhance the views, and incorporate garaging to provide additional storage and security.

The house was reclad using a combination of vertical and horizontal cedar weatherboards which is sympathetic to the original house but also provides a contemporary finish. Insulation was installed throughout, and the windows were replaced with high performing aluminium windows and doors. The rimu trim in the original house was continued through the alteration, which preserves aspects of the original house.

The new deck and living extension combine to provide a sheltered outdoor space stepping down to the existing lawn and gardens – a connection that was missing previously.
